Star duo Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray led the Nuggets to their first ever playoff series sweep and Conference Final title in the 47 year history of the franchise.
Jokic earned a record breaking eighth triple double in this year’s playoffs. He broke a mark previously set by NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain in the 1967 season. Jokic totaled 30 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists. Murray had 25 points in the game. The Denver Nuggets erased a 73-58 halftime deficit and outplayed the Lakers in the second half.
Denver was able to overcome an amazing 31-point performance in the first half by LeBron James. James was held to a mere 9 points in the second half as the Nuggets made some critical adjustments. As the Lakers closed the gap late, LeBron James had a chance to tie up the score in the final seconds. James got smothered by great defense from Nuggets duo Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray. Gordon got the official credit for the block on LeBron. It is the first time that LeBron James has gotten swept before the NBA Finals.
The Nuggets are patiently waiting to see which team emerges from the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics series. The Celtics just forced a game 7 on a buzzer beating putback by Derrick White in game 6.
Game 7 between the Heat and Celtics will be played on Monday night, May 29th at the Boston TD Garden.
